Jakarta International School, Tuition Fee and Curriculum

Cultural diversity is no stranger to Indonesians. With 17,000 islands spanning over 5,000 kilometers, you can find countless ethnic groups, languages, and traditions here. The country’s national motto is ‘Unity in Diversity’, a mindset taught at all public, private, or international schools. Indonesia has several international schools that offer cultural diversity. One of the best is the Jakarta Intercultural School. With 80% of students from different nationalities, JIS is Jakarta's most diverse international school.

About Jakarta Intercultural School

Previously known as Jakarta International School, Jakarta Intercultural School was founded in 1951 for the children of United Nations employees stationed in Jakarta. Indonesia was then newly independent and, thus, lacked English-speaking schools for these children after they left their home country.

The purpose of this school was not to be an American school but rather one that mirrored the fundamental principles of the UN Charter—one that was varied and inclusive. Now, 70 years later, the school has grown exponentially. Over 2,500 students, more than 100 teachers, and staff members are representing more than 60 countries at JIS.

Academic Programs at JIS

1. Early years

The first program at JIS focuses its curriculum on supporting children’s language, social/emotional, physical, and cognitive development. These are based on a comprehensive early childhood educational system called the Creative Curriculum® for preschool.

2. Elementary School

Next, the JIS Elementary School provides courses in science and technology, social studies, modern languages, fine arts, and physical development to ensure a well-rounded curriculum. Language arts and mathematics are given a lot of attention. This curriculum incorporates initiatives that show off the highest levels of international standards, procedures, and outcomes for student learning.

3. Middle School

Middle school is the time to introduce a wide range of classes and activities to students, so they can discover their passions. Because of that, the JIS Middle School curriculum emphasizes age-appropriate intellectual, physical, cultural, and social activities supported by research-based teaching and learning techniques.

4. High School

Lastly, for JIS High School, an academic program is created to prepare pupils for a university that best suits them. The curriculum is based on international standards, with International Baccalaureate (IB) and Advanced Placement (AP) diplomas/courses available—making sure students have enough options to choose from.

The JIS Curriculum

Using a globally accepted curriculum, JIS high school students are taught to be enthusiastic, curious, and imaginative. They will embody the seven principles of the Jakarta Intercultural School and improve their dispositions for learning. The principles of this international school in Jakarta emphasize that students improve their abilities to manage their own cognitive processes, be resourceful, and interact with others by being taught how to learn in systematic, explicit ways. They are encouraged to participate in a curriculum that is inclusive, engaging, and challenging. Students can choose between the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, the College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP) Program, and the IB Career-Related Programme.

These are globally renowned programs of study to help students be better at learning and prepare them for further education. Studying at Jakarta Intercultural School enables students to broaden their perspectives. They will learn how the world functions beyond their own culture, just like Flip, which offers financial benefits for students and parents.
