The unique code known as the SWIFT code when making transfers from banks to other countries stands for the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications, in fact it is an association that connects thousands of securities institutions and corporate customers in more than 200 countries in the world, with the aim of ensuring security online financial transactions, especially when transferring money between banks from and abroad. Another purpose of the SWIFT code is to reduce operational risk during transactions, provide standards, and minimize transaction costs.

The SWIFT code is needed to assist in the process of verifying a bank customer's financial transaction. a customer must know the SWIFT code so that a transaction they make is successful. The SWIFT code is always placed in front of the bank account number. Unlike a bank code which consists of 3 digit numbers, a SWIFT code is a combination of capital letters and numbers consisting of 8 to 11 digits.

How to find out the SWIFT/BIC Code of a Bank?

A bank's SWIFT/BIC code consists of 8-11 characters that show the name of the bank, country code, city and details of the location of the bank's office itself.

For example, bank BCA, JAKARTA branch, has the SWIFT code CENAIDJAXXX

From this code, we can see that the first 4 letters are the bank code for Bank CENTRAL ASIA. Then, the next two letters are the Indonesian country code, namely ID. JA is the location code for the BCA head office in Jakarta. The last three digits are the branch code for the Jakarta city area.
